New York Trip

The musical concert took place on May 9, 2017. It was located in St. Paul’s Chapel which is adjacent to several significant landmarks such as the World Trade Center, Trinity Church, and City Hall Park. The performance was held by the New York Baroque Incorporated which consisted of several prestigious musicians. The predominant music that was played was classical music however it concluded with a popular rock song from the 1970s called “Stairway to Heaven”. One important performer to recognize was Julian Wachner, a composer/pianist/producer who received a Grammy award for Best Choral Performance.

In my opinion, listening to music at home on headphones in comparison to listening to it live are like two completely different worlds. At home, you are limited to what you can hear. The only component you can alter with is the volume. The recording remains the same and does not change in any way. Listening to the music live is almost the exact opposite. When hearing it live, you can really hear the fullness of the sound. You can feel the depth of the music bouncing off the walls of the church. You can hear the distinct instruments and how they correlate in harmony. Overall, you get a sense of the “hand-made” sound, unlike the sound that comes off a computer or electronic device.
